I am a psychiatrist and IPA (International Psychoanalytical Association) certified psychoanalyst.

After graduating from Istanbul University, Istanbul School of Medicine, I started my residency training at Cerrahpasa School of Medicine Psychiatry Department in 1987. During 1989-1990, I worked as research fellow at Sleep and Sexual Disorders Unit of Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas, USA. Following psychiatry residency training, I continued my academic career at the geriatric psychiatry division of the same department.

I received my associate professorship degree in 1995, and became a full professor in 2000. I started working at consultation-liaison psychiatry (psychosomatic medicine) division of the same department in 1996. Along with patients with various medical illness, I worked with epileptic patients, patients with somatizaton related difficulties and patients with non-epileptic psychogenic seizures (pseudoseizures). After completing my psychoanalytical training on 2011, I became a full member of IPA.

During my academic career, I have been extensively involved in conducting, as well as teaching psychoanalytic psychotherapy and incorporating psychoanalytical and psychotherapeutic principles into general treatment plan of psychiatric patients. I worked as full-time faculty at Consultation-Liaison Division of Istanbul University, Cerrahpasa School of Medicine, Psychiatry Department for 16 years untill 2013. I had  teached at Bahcesehir and Bilgi Universities as a part-time supervising professor.
